Clean + Safe Inns Strive to Ensure Guests’ Health Safety

As California begins to reopen to travelers, CABBI member inns and boutique hotels are taking extra precautions to ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and health safety for their guests and employees.  As additional assurance for travelers, over 70 CABBI member inns and counting have obtained Clean + Safe certification from the California Hotel & Lodging Association. The certification process requires strict adherence to a detailed checklist of cleaning protocols and new guidelines for guests and employees.

The certification program incorporates recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the California Department of Public Health, and county health departments. For guests, the guidelines include new arrival and check-in procedures, availability of sanitation amenities, and physical distancing recommendations. For employees, the requirements include COVID-19 training, pre-shift health screenings, use of personal protective equipment, and frequent handwashing, among others.

The certification program’s new cleaning protocols require rooms to be left vacant after guests check out and then to be sealed off once cleaned and sanitized for the next guests’ arrival. Other changes include increased frequency of cleaning and sanitizing in all public spaces, increased HVAC system cleaning and air filter replacement, and washing linens at the hottest temperatures possible.
